Abstract |
This research is about concept of Service Design embedded in Sustainable Design effort. By working on energy efficiency, low-impact materials, reuse and recycling, engineers and designers achieved limited effects in a scenario of rapidly increasing impacts. Sustainable design must create projects of meaningful innovations that can shift consumers' behavior. In this case, knowledge of Service Design would enable the designer to include an optimum Business Model of implementing new ideas of eco-design. A modular furniture system was designed with materials selected according to eco-indicator of Life Cycle Assessment. Materials and furniture parts were design with consideration of recycling and reuse that consumes least energy. On this occasion, a service model following the lifelong guarantee concept was formulated as follows, aiming to benefit both customers and manufacturers. (1) Providing customers with diverse selection of function, scale, style and finish choice that satisfied customs of various demand. (2) All parts of the furniture can be easily replaced, renewed, even functionally upgraded, supporting by easy access logistic channel. This service model includes inventory allocation, delivery and onsite maintenance and (3) In the case of abandoned goods, the logistic system will deliver every parts of the furniture to manufacturer with beneficial rewards. |
