Abstract Mechanoelectrical transducers based on biocomposites are relevant to the realization of sensing systems compliant with circular economy. In the paper, we propose a novel bio-derived generating deformation sensor, based on Bacterial Cellulose, choline malonate as a Bio-Derived Ionic Liquid, and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) polystyrene sulfonate as a conductive polymer for electrodes realization. The proposed device is a greener device with respect to the state of the art of generating mechanoelectrical transducers based on Bacterial Cellulose. In the paper, the performance of the transducer, when conditioned either in open circuit or short circuit conditions are investigated and compared.
