Abstract Today, the population, extracts and consumes the resources of the planet at a higher rate than the planet can regenerate. At the level of the European Union, modern lifestyles imply a level of comfort in a steady growth that attracts an increasing consumption of resources. The "take-to-throw" growth model should be replaced with the "reuse-recycle" recycling economy model. By the year 2050, the world is estimated to be between 6-7 billion consumers, which will increase the pressure on the planet's resources. Therefore, the principles of the circular economy will affect all sectors of activity, including housing construction. Houses of the future are those residential buildings that consist predominantly of natural materials, aim to protect the environment and to minimize energy consumption, being beneficial to the environment, the economic and social environment. For this reason, houses of the future are also called green houses or green buildings. What types of houses can be built in the future in order to adapt to the principles of the circular economy, and what will be the impact on the environment, are just some of the objectives of this paper.
