| Abstract |
Doctoral education in responsible management learning and education (RMLE) has immense potential to further promote responsible management education contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals. However, there is a dearth of doctoral education both in literature and practice of RMLE. Doctoral education in business schools needs to ensure that doctoral students learn to become both role models in responsibility in their day-to-day academic practices and change agents for responsibility, contributing to the transformation of the greater economic system. We discuss two books well-positioned to serve as impactful educational materials for doctoral education that pursue these learning goals: On the one hand, The Ethical Professor (Eden, Lund Dean, & Vaaler, 2018, Routledge) illustrates how to be a role model responsible management academic across practices of research, teaching, and academic life. On the other hand, Intellectual Shamans (Waddock, 2015, Cambridge) provides actionable guidance for the practices of healing, connecting, and sensemaking, needed to change business schools, the economic system, and society at large. We discuss the books' complementary value for teaching, their underlying role-models-centered pedagogy, and the implications for research and practice in RMLE. |
