Abstract |
Production research should supply solutions to help create a sustainable society that achieves worldwide wealth through better physical, economic, psychological and environmental outcomes. This paper proposes a direction for production research that will enable creation of new value in society. One hundred years have passed since F.W. Taylor published The Principles of Scientific Management. In the twentieth century, production acted to drive society through scientific management methods and the fruits of the Industrial Revolution. This likely came from the growth of physical and economic value that arose by developing a society of mass production, mass sales and mass consumption. As the new century starts, our society faces crises in the economic and environmental spheres. New models of production research will allow progression beyond Taylor's scientific management and improve societal outcomes. This is the goal of the proposed value and fusion models. |
