Abstract |
Tourism can be an engine for economic growth and the improvement of the quality of life of local communities in the Ecuadorian Amazon, as well as for the protection and valuation of its natural and cultural resources. The Quintuple Helix model has been used as a conceptual framework for the study of open innovation and its application in addressing the current challenges of the Amazon cluster. The detailed analysis of the cluster has made it possible to establish a situational diagnosis of local actors, resources and relations with the environment, clear enough to develop a new axis of sustainable development. The conclusion is that the role of local communities and the initiatives of indigenous communities are fundamental for business development and evolution, and that projects in the Amazon cluster should be understood as a way to consolidate economic growth and social welfare. |
