Abstract One of the key elements of the company in sustainable development is the support of innovation. Based on the Global Responsibility and Sustainability Report (SDG), the Czech Republic lags behind other countries in supporting innovation and in a small number of patent applications. Working with industrial and legal protection databases enables businesses to avoid duplicate developments that have already been completed in the world, thus directly saving on development costs. An example of the trend of sharing research knowledge is the GreenXchange project, hrough which companies can collaborate and share their intellectual property, which can lead to the creation of new sustainable business models and further innovation. The aim of this article is to identify the aspects of IP on an open and closed innovation models, futher more identify other issues associated with open innovation, specifically IP acquisition, working with IP databases and IP licensing.
