Abstract Resource availability, energy demand and changes in consumer characteristics are important for organizational management. These aspects are the basis for rethinking production processes without altering the economic and financial stability of organizations. The purpose of the research is to analyze the role, behavior and evolution of publications on sustainable production, value creation and competitive advantage. A bibliometric study was carried out for 2682 documents related to the study area. The Scopus database was used for the period 1949-2019. Lotka Law and Pareto Law were used to generate quality, quantity and structure indicators. The results show the most relevant countries, authors, networks and sources on interest topic. The article represents a contribution to identify topics and research initiatives related to sustainable production, value creation and competitive advantage such as: information and communication technologies applied to production, smart manufacturing, circular economy, industry 4.0, redesign of business models, production servitization, Life Cycle Costing and Social Life Cycle Assessment.
