Abstract Given the growing urgency to address food security and environmental-preservation challenges, sustainable agriculture assumes undeniable global relevance. Furthermore, using renewable biomass as a base for nanopesticides offers an environmentally friendly solution, reducing dependence on nonrenewable resources and promoting the circular economy. This study examined the use of lignocellulosic biomass in formulating nanopesticides, highlighting their potential as a sustainable alternative to conventional pesticides. By incorporating lignocellulose into controlled release nanosystems, the researchers observed improved adhesion, stability, and the ability to release pesticides, significantly reducing the need for reapplication and risk of environmental pollution. Encapsulation, formulation, and characterization techniques for lignocellulosic biomass-based nanopesticides were discussed, highlighting their ability to control active ingredient release. Additionally, the study provides a thorough overview of recent research, underscoring the promising effectiveness of these nanopesticides across diverse crops. Hence, this review compiles advancements, trends, and challenges in utilizing lignocellulosic biomass in nanopesticides, aiming to furnish a valuable resource for scientists, researchers, farmers, and policymakers committed to advancing sustainable agricultural practices.
