Abstract During the last decade, within a knowledge production process that has been defined as "continuity with changes", the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (Ect.Ac) has insisted on the central role of equality and sustainability as fundaments for a new style of development. There are several proposals, ideas, and concepts that have been formulated within this context, such as progressive structural change; a big push for sustainability; macroeconomics for development; universal social protection that is sensitive to the differences; the physical, political, and economic autonomy of women; the guarantee of a basic income; the central role of the technological revolution and industrial policies; the decommodification of welfare; green progressive taxation; the society of care and the care system as an additional pillar for the welfare state; the dismantling of the culture of privilege in all of its forms; the renewal of the energy grid; governance of natural resources; the circular economy; nature-based solutions; driving regional integration, and the strengthening of multilateralism. Based on its characteristics, priorities, and necessities, Mexico can use them to build and enrich the public debate with aims towards building a new style of development that decreases inequalities, eradicates poverty, guarantees sustainability, and elevates the welfare of the entire population.
