Abstract With the rapid development of automobile industry in China, the question of recycling scraped cars has become more and more serious. At present, this industry is still in a disorder state without an effective mode existing. The resource is wasted and the environment is polluted. This paper deeply analyzed the experience of dismantling and recycling of scraped automobiles in developed countries. Several measures were raised with consideration of China's specific conditions, in order to realize the recycle of automobiles. Statistical data released by Chinese Auto Industry Association shows, in 2013, the 22.1168 million automobiles were produced and 21.9841million were sold in China. The numbers are 14.76% and 13.87% larger than 2012. That is the first time the number of automobile sold exceed 20 million in China, also it is the fifth consecutive year ranked No. 1 in the world. By the end of 2013, the inventory of automobiles in China is 137 million. With a theoretical scrap rate of 6%, more than 8 million cars were scraped each year. By 2020 the inventory of vehicles in China will exceed 200 million, vehicles need to be scraped is estimated more than 12 million. Without a timely recycling the scrap vehicles will occupy a lot of land, and resulting in a huge waste of recourse and damage to environment. Automobile recycling has great positive impact on protecting environment, saving energy, managing after- sales market, supervising traffic, and accelerating the renewal of vehicles. It will make the automobile industry become a close- loop ecology and finally achieve circular economy. At present nearly 500 entities can dismantle and recycle scraped vehicles and more than 1800 vehicle recycling branches exist in China, but most of them have problems of low technical level, obsolete equipment and low utilization rate. Therefore, the technical level of dismantling and recycling vehicles is urgent to be improved.
