Abstract Biomass-based hydrogels possess broad application prospects because of their biocompatibility and environ-mental friendliness. In this study, fenugreek galactomannan modified by 2-octenyl succinic anhydride was uti-lized as raw material. Meanwhile, acetic acid lignin-Ag NPs and Klason lignin-Ag NPs were used as initiators, and bio-based hydrogels were prepared with free-radical polymerization. FTIR, UV, XRD, and TEM confirmed the successful preparation of lignin-Ag NPs (particle size 15.5 nm). The mechanical properties (stress 42kpa, strain 618 %) and electrical conductivity (GF 2.72) of the hydrogel were studied through the combination of universal material testing machine and electrochemical workstation. Additionally, the hydrogel exhibited antibacterial activity against S. aureus and E. coli. This research could expand the different types of biological hydrogels, promote green single catalytic cycle technology while improving the performance of bio-based materials. These hydrogels may also be potential candidate materials for intelligent flexible materials.
