Title Learning policies in design. Sustainable attitudes and behaviours in education systems

Abstract The current academic system and teaching methods must address the problems presented by our society. The complexity that surrounds us added to the contemporary economic, political, social, environmental and cultural situation has configured an uncertain map, where the role of the designer as change maker must be present in the learning systems. The design challenge for the future is focused on new, more diversified methodologies and practices, based on the circular economy and prioritising a more ecological and sustainable approach to design. This new configuration will bring benefits to the environment and to all systems and ways of life. The process of designing cannot be conceived as a neutral practice; our world is surrounded and affected by design and its consequences should not be ignored. Design also demands values of social and ethical responsibility and requires a holistic approach. Many educational systems embrace theory and research in the construction of knowledge about the essence and fields of activity of design, but the need to establish criteria and methods in the processes of conceptualization and development under the premise of sustainability requires a new look.
