Title A Science Mapping Approach Based Review of Construction and Demolition Waste Management

Abstract With the growing construction works over the world, the waste generated from construction and demolition is increasing at an enormous rate. In India, 50 million tons (MT) of construction and demolition waste (CDW) was generated in 2013. With the passage of time, several obsolete and structurally weak buildings in various cities will need to be demolished and reconstructed under several government schemes of redevelopment. Thus, it is expected that a huge amount of CDW will be generated in near future which may lead to several environment issues. The CDW management is a broad area which includes various domains such as estimation and quantification of CDW, reducing, reusing, and recycling (3Rs) of CDW and its management in general, role of human factors on CDW practices, demolition and logistics management of CDW, and its life cycle analysis. These issues are interrelated and should be studied in a holistic manner. This paper attempts to conduct a holistic review of CDW from practical, managerial, and research point of view. The study uses the science mapping approach to review 476 journal papers indexed in the web of science and published during 2000 to 2019. Outcome of this study could benefit researchers, academicians, and industry consultants in enhancing their knowledge of construction and demolition waste management.
