Abstract It is shown that countries, regions, cities, corporations and universities are actively developing their environmental policies. This is facilitated by modern innovative technologies, such as alternative energy, energy-saving equipment, new motor vehicles, processing of wastes into useful goods, and many more. Countries have to adapt to the global climate change, which is accelerating at an unprecedented speed. One of the most sensitive places in terms of global warming is Siberia. This territory as a unique natural mega-construction largely regulates the carbon cycle and the climate of the planet. Environmental policy is on the agenda in almost all countries of the world, but in some countries, such as France, Germany, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, it is given priority. Russia began to develop an environmental policy on its territory. As known, Russia made 2017 the year of ecology. Environmental friendliness is incorporated into the engineering and infrastructure solutions of a number of new cities. The most striking examples of such cities are the eco-cities of Songdo and Masdar. The cities are provided with solar energy, have a pneumatic system of waste collection, have mostly electric public transport. Traditional cities are also shifting to new ways of saving energy and creating a clean infrastructure. In the world, there has been a mass policy of transition to the design of offices based on environmental principles. Such giants of the hi-tech industry as Facebook, Apple, Google, Amazon, etc. set fashion in this area. Russia has a rating "Green Offices in Russia". Three criteria are analyzed: non-toxicity, energy efficiency and low carbon living. The most active in the ranking of 2017 were representatives of the IT industry. The world's leading universities are actively implementing the environmental component in their development along with educational programs and research projects. The concept of a green university involves the use of environmental innovation in the university. Innovations include landscaping, organization of a separate waste collection system, energy efficiency. Campuses have park areas, water bodies, buildings with "zero heat emission", and more. Students of such universities participate in projects and actions, are engaged in research and project work, make business plans taking into account environmental protection. Taking into account that green universities actively cooperate with municipal, city and regional management structures and business partners, this can ensure the improvement and green development of their district, city and region as a whole.
