Abstract This article aims to investigate the ways in which the development of contemporary cities, in the context of the capitalist production of space, implies the reification of subjective experience. The investigation consists in the critique of the political economy of smart cities, with the horizon of the proposition of political strategies of collective reappropriation of the alienated experience.
